Maun

Maun is the fifth largest town in Botswana and its tourist capital. Since it is the gateway to the Okavango Delta and the Moremi Game Reserve, most tourists enter the Okavango through Maun. There are countless safari companies and air charter services, several shopping centres, car rentals and a good variety of hotels and lodges. Maun Airport is one of the busiest airports in Southern Africa if all the light aircraft charters to the various Delta camps are taken into account.

Maun has around 45 000 inhabitants and is the administrative centre of Ngamiland. The town has developed rapidly but still retains a rural atmosphere. Red lechwe can still be seen grazing next to donkeys, goats and cattle on the banks of the Thamalakane River.
