The Linyanti Wildlife Reserve is located next to the Kwando and Linyanti rivers where the marsh subsides into lagoons and steadily flowing rivers with riverine forests that lead to open grasslands and dry inland wooded areas with Kasane being the main city in this region.
The 125,000 hectare Linyanti Wildlife Reserve, which is near the western boundary of Chobe National Park, displays nature in all its forms: river and marshland, dry woodlands (further inland), huge lagoons and countryside plains.
One of the main attractions in Linyanti are the elephants. At the start of winter these beautiful animals move in herds down the Linyanti River and later make their way back when the rainy season arrives.
On the plains, lion, leopard, wild dog and buffalo are easily spotted. In and around the marshes you may glimpse the rare and elusive Sitatunga antelope, Red Lechwe, hippos and crocodiles. On the fringes of the waterways you can spot elephant, zebra, kudu, waterbuck and impala.
The daytime sounds include incessantly grunting hippos and trumpeting elephants, while nighttime brings roaring lions and laughing hyenas.
