Gauteng
Gauteng, the most dynamic of South Africa’s provinces, is the commercial heart of the country. Its energy and vibe are tangible from the moment you arrive. With historical and cultural attractions that speak of the country’s turbulent past to world-class cities which are distinctly African, Gauteng has much to offer to visitors.
Attractions:
Even though Gauteng is the commercial powerhouse of South Africa its offerings are not limited to commerce and industry. Gauteng’s tourism contribution is equally impressive and Johannesburg, Pretoria, Soweto, Cullinan and Magaliesburg all rank as top attractions.
A network of malls, casinos and countless suburban stores provides plenty of shopping and entertainment opportunities.
Soweto is an extremely popular destination in Johannesburg. This is largely due to the pivotal role it played in South Africa’s struggle for freedom but even more so because of the unique cultural experiences it has to offer. Adventure tourism is also taking off and visitors can bungee jump or swing in and outside of Soweto’s landmark, the Orlando Towers.
Johannesburg extends south to the Sedibeng region and the water-sports mecca of the Vaal River, west towards the popular Cradle of Humankind, Sterkfontein Caves and the charming rural environment of Magaliesburg.
Pretoria extends north into the Dinokeng tourism region, which is home to the quaint mining town of Cullinan with its ‘big hole’, and rolling savannahs which feature a number of game reserves.
